World news is a subfield of journalism that covers news from abroad. In the United States, it may also be referred to as international news or foreign coverage. This branch of journalism often covers events or subjects that are global in scope, including the news of wars and international politics, as well as a variety of cultural and social issues. The field has many subfields, but the most commonly known is probably foreign journalism (also referred to as “foreign coverage”), which involves reporting on matters of an international nature that affect or concern people from one country, whether it be in terms of war or global economic issues.

In the past, world news rebroadcast a number of different ABC News segments and news packages, such as Nightline and This Week, and aired an international edition of the business program Good Morning America. In addition, the show featured several of its own segments. These included Morning Papers, in which a series of offbeat or funny pictures were taken from newspapers around the world; and World News Knows, in which a quick trivia fact was flashed on-screen at the end of a commercial break.

Other regular segments included a weekly interview with a celebrity, and InsomniACTS, in which the anchors visited local jazz bands in New York City and invited them to perform live on-air. Several times, WNN was interrupted by the live broadcast of an emergency situation, such as an accident or terrorist attack. When a co-anchor left the show, it was often announced with a cardboard cutout of the person in the studio’s rafters, and a special tribute was sometimes given on that individual’s last airing.
